10'000 trees for the forests of Graubünden

Background
A forest is an important habitat for plants and animals as well as a sustainable and regional resource for the extraction of wood. Furthermore, the forest has an important protective function: it prevents soil erosion, rockfalls, protects against avalanches and binds CO2. Forests and trees are natural donors. Trees and forests act as natural reservoirs as they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and release oxygen. Therefore, tree plantations are important and effective measures to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and thus limit global warming.
However, global warming and increasingly extreme weather events are putting pressure on the forest. There are types of trees that cannot adapt to the higher average temperatures and thus die. In addition, pests such as bark beetles can spread further due to warming and destroy individual forest areas or even entire forests.

Idea
The "Bündner Kantonale Patentjägerverband" (BKPJV) and the Association of Forest Owners SELVA want to plant 10'000 trees together. With this initiative, they want to actively campaign for a climate-resistant forest, more biodiversity and against global warming.
Climate change and other global problems cannot be solved by individuals alone. It requires the cooperation of a wide variety of actors at different levels and in different areas, pulling together to bring about change. This aspect is also central to this project. In addition to the cooperation of the BKPJV, SELVA and there-for-you.com, the plantations take place with the help of local forestry offices. Long-term cooperation between individual parties is to be established and good communication between hunters and local forest owners/offices is to be promoted.

Implementation
Over the course of two and a half years, about 17 plantings are to take place in the Canton of Graubünden. The planting sites are distributed throughout the canton. The areas to be planted and the species to be planted are determined by the local foresters, and SELVA takes care of the organization. Hunters and the forestry personnel are responsible for the execution.
The donations are used for the costs of the trees. The focus is on native tree species that can cope with the changed climatic conditions (average temperature, water supply, soil conditions, etc.) and contribute to the biodiversity in the forest. Donations benefit the project on an ongoing basis. Progress is communicated under "Updates".

The forest is suffering from climate change. It needs the cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders and interested parties. This project not only implements measures for a "climate-smart" forest, it also promotes exchange and understanding between different communities of interest. Hopefully, this will lead to follow-up projects and collaborations that build on the great impact of this project.
